Orlando, Florida - Chicago, Illinois
What would it be like to step into the internet to play and dine and shop?
DisneyQuest is a first-generation digital entertainment center of about 100,000 square feet in Orlando, Florida. JMA prepared designs for the building shell, public spaces, food service businesses, and a variety of entertainment venues.
JMA was responsible for the interior architecture, product design and associated manufacturing for about half of the public spaces at DisneyQuest. The project extrapolated upon research JMA had prepared when George Lucas and his team at Skywalker Development asked JMA to reinvent a dormant shopping center by inventing an entertainment experience combining specially curated shopping, dining and entertainment venues.
Public spaces and a dining area found inspiration in the science and tools of star gazing and navigation from half a millennium ago.
A second environment was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”, a poetic analogy for the internet.
Midcentury Googie space-age architecture and design and the work of John Lautner inspired a third collection of space designs.
