Bobby Baldwin, CEO of Mirage Resorts, loves Charlie Parker’s tune “Now’s the Time”. JMA wondered what it would look like if you could see it.
JMA created at 25’ long red bronze and copper sculpture of the tune “Now’s the Time”.
The artwork explores the relationships between the
piano and bass harmonics, the rhythm, and the
melody in which Bird presents a riff, repeats it,
abstracts it, encourages solo participation from his
fellow musicians and then returns
to the original seed- riff before the piano closes.
Composed of recycled red bronze cast from
hand-carved plaster sculptures, hand polished
and mounted on copper sheets treated
with acid and flames.
