Plié Ballet Table Lamp
JMA was commissioned to design a restaurant and jazz club adjacent to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. The Plié Lamp was one of several components made for Iridium inspired by dance.
The project imagined accompanying Clara in her Nutcracker dream and was populated with elements inspired by dance and Goethe's thought that "architecture is like frozen music.” The entrance door handle, for instance, was a bronze sixteenth note in second position.
PROCESS + MATERIALS
Base and finial: Hand carved maple forms were molded, investment-cast in recycled red bronze, then hand polished. The hand-blown glass was formed in a custom-made cast mold and then hand-worked. Made in Chicago.
