After dead-lining for weeks our studio whole went camping at Devil’s Lake. Eliza was 3.
We hiked up purple rocks, fished and lit a fire as the sun faded.
Eliza looked up and said “oh wow, there are stars”. The celestial bodies in Chicago night skies are street lamps, signs and reflections.
“I want to touch one”
“They’re very high Eliza”
“We can get a ladder!”
“Look Eliza, a shooting star! What do you think it’s made of?”
“Cookies! It went over there.” And she darted toward the meadow.
I collected a flashlight and frisbeed the cookie towards the meadow.
“There it is Eliza!”
“It’s still warm” she said.
Eliza has lived in Berlin for four years where she works as a stylist, artist and baker of cookies and cakes. Some of the cakes have wild constellations of stars.
