The Barney’s Stool was inspired by mid-century Milanese design. It was created in 1992 for Fred Pressman's eponymous Italian Marketplace Restaurant at Barney's New York Department Store at 61st and Madison in Manhattan.
This variation on the original design was created in 2017.
Fred Pressman, the son of Barney's founder, transformed his father's shoe store into the most luxurious department store in the United States. Fred's was conceived as a restaurant and fine food emporium, created in collaboration with chefs Pino Luongo and Marta Pulini. JMA’s designs included a cheese shop curated by Steven Jenkins, a wine bar, a cafe, a bakery, and a restaurant.
PROCESS + MATERIALS
The foot rail and shoes for the stool were sculpted from maple and cast in recycled aluminum-magnesium alloy. They were then hand-polished and rubbed with elixirs to patina the metal. The legs are cut from solid Wisconsin maple. Upholstered in 100% wool mohair. Made in Chicago.
